I decided to make this debate because of the recent rise in male on male sexual harassment. This is a little part from an article that explains a little about about the rise of male on male sexual harassment.
Ok so with my situation, one of my bosses, Jerome was talking to my mother about me. This was most likely the 1st day that he started working at the K&W I work at. K&W btw is a restaurant that I work at. It has a few other locations around North Carolina and a few other states. So my mom said that he asked her "is heeee?" And she responded with, " is he what?" And he said, "you know, is he gay? Come on Anna, stop being in denial" Thats as much as she told me. I'm assuming the conversation lasted a bit longer then what was said.
This bugged me a for a while at work. Especially since after he said those things, hes never fully treated me like everyone else. Whenever he needs to tell me something, he will have a co-worker or another manager relay the message to me. And one time, he actually told me not to show up to work one day for reasons unknown. That really pissed me off. Besides that one day he told me not to go to work, the not speaking to me directly thing has been going on for a while now. I find Jerome to be really difficult to work with at times. I really do.
I know the ignoring me thing isn't harassment, but the talking to my mom thing about am I gay or not, would that be considered sexual harassment? I mean he never said anything to my face or even relayed a message about my sexuality to me, so I'm just unclear if this situation would be considered sexual harassment. And even if it is, what he did really hasn't effected me that much or the quality of work that I'm doing. I only made this thread because I'm curious to know what everything thinks. So what is everyones thoughts about this?
Men filed 16% of all sexual harassment claims in 2009, up from 8% in 1990, according to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. While a few claims filed by men involve harassment by women, male-on-male cases make up the overwhelming majority. The AP reports that while some cases stem from unwelcome romantic advances, others are because a man is perceived to be gay or considered not masculine enough for their job.
